Finding my feet: Pai
As the winding roads grew flatter the bus lurched unsteadily up the hill to a final stop. It was slightly raining and a worry about floods, thanks Lonely Planet, meant I was sceptical of the place already. We got talking to some other new arrivals, an Israeli guy with just a small backpack and guitar and a hippie Ozzie chick. They told us we had to come to stay at this new hostel that was only three weeks old. A short minivan ride later we were there, Spicy Pai Hostel. Set in a paddy field and run by a Thai family and a few unofficial staff members it was a welcome retreat from the noise, smell and pace of Bangkok.
Paying just under £4 a night for a comfy bunk with mosquito netting and a huge upstairs chill out area (see picture above) fitted with free internet, sound system, free breakfast and 4 ridiculously comfortable hammocks it was a steal.
Why Pai is one of my favourite places in Thailand
-Hangover days are spent at the waterfall.
-The scooters, fun fairly dangerous and uber-cool.
-Once everyone is feeling better, Sang Som, dirt cheap Thai rum.
-Don’t Cry, the reggae nightclub in town that stays open till police drive by, so the lights are switched off and the party continues in darkness!
-When you go for a drive this is your view
– The morning hammock swings
-Saving the best till last. Some call him the festive feline, the tanked up tabby he’s the craziest pussy I know ….
- The Spicy Pai Party Cat
I Love Pai.
